Drawing 252 ~ of a home made birthday card sent from my Tante Erika to my father on his 88th birthday. This image was chosen as it has stayed with me since our visit with him last Saturday.. … description continued below
Notice…
~ the pink construction paper, ragged and worn from my father having carried it around in his pockets for the last week,
~ the pink string was wrapped around it
~ A stanza of a spiritual poem,
Written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident. He was arrested for his resistance and imprisoned in a concentration camp. The poem was written to greet the new year in 1945 a few months a few months before he was executed.(additional links below)
~ my father pleaded with me to translate it as he wants to show it to the other residents and the people who care for them so they too can get inspired by it as he was.
~ inside written on thin airmail paper, a sister’s encouraging letter full of acceptance, love and faith from across the ocean, encouraging them to both face these aging declining years with an appreciation of what was and what is and …what is ahead.
