Drawing120 ~ A drawing of hands kneading dough. The continuation of the domestic theme; however, this drawing is actually based on a photograph by Jeanne Penne. I corresponded with her after I found it on the Sacred in Society website. Her story is below. For me it brings up memories of watching my mother’s hands kneading dough in this week of the anniversary of her death.
Jeanne: “I attend Hamilton College (Clinton, NY) and this photo was taken in the kitchen of the Azel Backus House with an on-campus group called Challah for Hunger. Each Saturday we prepare the dough and on Sunday we braid and bake the challah to sell, which raises money for the charity MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. I’m not sure who’s hands those are–all I know is that it is one of the students who is part of Challah for Hunger.”
